To accommodate this, use the 5/8 inch spade bit to drill a shallower hole at the bottom of the recess. This will allow the base of the socket to sit flush with the top of the wood block.
Drill and check the fit repeatedly until the socket sits securely in place.

Now, drill a hole completely through the wood block for the threaded lamp pipe to pass through. Use a drill bit that is slightly larger than the diameter of the lamp pipe.

- Metal bottom part of the porcelain socket
- Insulation piece of porcelain socket (placed between the installed socket and the bottom part)
This step is crucial! If your lamp cord already has a plug attached, you’ll need to thread everything on in reverse order before wiring the socket. It might seem confusing now, but reading through the following steps will help you understand how everything fits together, making this step easier.
Step 14: Wiring the Socket
Connect the lamp cord to the bottom of the lamp socket, following the instructions provided with your socket kit. Typically, the ribbed cord is the neutral (white) wire, and the smooth cord is the hot (black) wire.
