Step-by-Step Instructions: Crafting Your Laptop Messenger Bag

Follow these basic steps to construct your own stylish laptop messenger bag:

1. Determine Strap Length: Measure the desired length of the strap, ensuring it’s long enough to comfortably go around the bag and across your shoulder. Consider how you’ll wear the bag – cross-body or over one shoulder.
2. Prepare the Strap: Cut the leather (or chosen material) for the strap. Apply interfacing to the back of the strap using fabric adhesive spray. This will give the strap added strength and prevent it from stretching.
3. Cut the Fabric Pieces: Measure your laptop to determine the appropriate size for the bag. Cut the exterior fabric pieces according to these dimensions, adding extra seam allowance. Remember to account for the depth of your laptop.
4. Attach the Strap to the Bag Front: Position the strap on the front of the bag and stitch it securely in place. Use a strong stitch and reinforce the attachment points for added durability.

5. Attach the Pocket: Center the recycled pocket on the outside back of the bag and stitch it in place. Ensure the pocket is securely attached and that the stitching is neat and even.

6. Attach the Other Side of the Bag to the Strap: Stitch the other side of the bag to the strap, creating the main body of the messenger bag. Again, reinforce the attachment points for added strength.
7. Cut the Lining Fabric: Cut the quilted lining fabric pieces to the same dimensions as the exterior bag pieces.
8. Assemble the Lining: Stitch the lining front and back pieces together, wrong sides facing. Leave a small opening at the bottom for turning the bag right side out later.
9. Insert the Lining: Insert the lining into the bag, ensuring the wrong sides of the lining and the bag exterior are facing each other.

13. Secure the Lining and Flap: Pin the entire top of the lining to the bag all the way around the top edge. Topstitch everything in place ¼ inch from the edge, securing the lining, flap, and bag exterior together.
