29th Avenue Bathroom: From Drab to Dramatic!

Get ready to be amazed! After weeks of planning and hard work, I’m thrilled to
finally unveil my dramatic bathroom makeover. This isn’t just a simple
renovation; it’s a complete transformation that has breathed new life into
the space. Prepare for a serious dose of style and inspiration!

Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane with one last “before” shot, showing
how far we’ve come.

Not exactly inspiring, right? But the “after” is a completely different story.
Feast your eyes on this:

Black, white, and brass – my dream combination! As promised, the bathroom has
been completely overhauled with a dramatic and stylish aesthetic. And this
is just the beginning! Keep scrolling for more detailed views of this

As I mentioned earlier, the original bathroom was suffering from a previous
makeover gone wrong. While the “before” photos might not reveal the extent of
the issues, trust me when I say that it was riddled with broken tiles, leaky
plumbing, pervasive mildew, and overall low-quality materials. Beyond the
practical problems, it simply didn’t align with our personal style.

That’s why I was overjoyed when Lowe’s offered the opportunity to partner on
a bathroom makeover. The answer was a resounding “YES!” This was the perfect
chance to transform the space into something truly special.

From the start, we established a few non-negotiables: We would be keeping the
original cast iron tub – a true gem that couldn’t be replaced. The floor
needed to make a statement, serving as a focal point for the entire room. And
lastly, we aimed to incorporate as much brass as possible, adding warmth and
a touch of luxury.

I immediately began the search for the perfect floor tile, and it wasn’t long
before I stumbled upon “The One.” This bold, black and white patterned cement
tile, inspired by traditional quilting blocks, instantly captured my heart.
With the statement flooring secured, I turned to Lowe’s to find the remaining
elements that would bring the desired drama to the space.

Given the bathroom’s relatively small size, I knew that a wall-mounted,
semi-pedestal style sink would be ideal. This design would maximize floor
space and minimize the visual impact of the sink. We ultimately chose the
Reve series by Kohler for both the sink and toilet, drawn to their modern and
streamlined aesthetic.

With the major elements in place, it was time to indulge in my love for brass
fixtures and accents. We selected Kohler’s Purist series in Vibrant Moderne
Brushed Gold for the faucet, hand towel ring, and toilet paper holder, adding
a touch of sophistication and warmth to the space. These details truly
elevated the overall design.

The original bathroom featured a small splash wall around the tub. However, in
keeping with the dramatic theme of the makeover, we opted for oversized
subway tile, black grout, and enclosed the area almost to the ceiling (which
we painted black). This created a clean, cohesive space that surprisingly
feels much larger than before. The dark ceiling adds depth and a touch of
unexpected drama.

And there you have it! Our dark and dramatic bathroom makeover, complete with
bold patterns and brassy accents. I’m incredibly proud of the transformation
and excited to share it with you. I hope this inspires you to take on your
