Kitchen Organization: From Chaos to Calm – A Step-by-Step Guide
Remember our kitchen makeover this summer? Bruno shared all the details about the renovation process. But what he might have missed was the monumental effort it took to actually *organize* the kitchen and make it photo-ready. Because let’s be honest, our kitchen doesn’t always look magazine-worthy!

Today, I’m spilling the beans (or should I say, organizing the beans?) on how I tackled the challenge of our unruly cupboards, overflowing pantry, and chaotic lazy Susan. Prepare yourself, because the “before” pictures are not pretty.
The Reality Check: Kitchen Organization Nightmare

This is where we started. While I won’t explicitly blame Bruno for this state of affairs, let’s just say he played a significant role. Okay, I’m blaming him explicitly.
Imagine a cupboard that greets you with the threat of falling cans. “Hi! I’m your dangerously disorganized cupboard; good luck trying to find anything without getting brained by a can of crushed tomatoes.” It’s practically a Home Alone booby trap just waiting to happen.
And the pantry? Surely, the pantry offered a glimmer of hope, right?
It’s a pantry party, and everyone’s invited! Notice that ominous space beneath the bottom shelf? That was the domain of our resident recycling monster.

The upper pantry wasn’t much better.

Just a casual collection of fragile glass items patiently waiting for an opportunity to crash down on someone’s head. Safety first!

And under the sink? A scary realm of cleaning products and forgotten containers. Definitely not a place you want to explore without proper protective gear.
To sum it all up, here’s Ayla expressing her sentiments about the kitchen’s disastrous state:

The Great Kitchen Purge: Emptying Everything
Okay, so I embarked on this kitchen organization mission the only way a sane person would: by removing *every single thing* from every cupboard, shelf, and drawer. It was a daunting task, but a necessary one.
Bruno, bless his heart, even documented this chaotic process on video.
The Transformation: A Kitchen Organization Success Story
After hours of sorting, tossing, and meticulously categorizing, things started to improve dramatically. The cupboard received a serious makeover, thanks in part to some amazing airtight storage containers from OXO. I’m a huge fan of OXO products in general, and these containers were no exception. They’re perfect for keeping dry goods fresh and organized.

The pantry organization focused on classic techniques and eliminating unnecessary items. The result is a much more functional and visually appealing space.
And Bruno, my amazing partner, stepped up and built custom recycling bins (check out his DIY project here) to finally tame the recycling monster.

The upper pantry, while still housing glassware, is now significantly less precarious. Items are arranged in a way that minimizes the risk of accidental breakage (and potential head injuries).

A few repurposed plastic containers transformed the under-sink cabinet from a disaster zone into a much more manageable space. It’s still not the prettiest area, but it’s definitely an improvement.
The Takeaway: Simple Steps to a More Organized Kitchen
The entire kitchen organization project took me roughly four hours, spread across a couple of weekends and a few trips to the store. Was it worth it? Absolutely! While the kitchen hasn’t remained in its pristine, post-organization state (life happens!), the improvements I made have significantly helped us maintain a reasonable level of organization. More importantly, we now have a clear template to follow whenever we need to tackle a kitchen clean-up.
So, what are you waiting for? Take the plunge and start decluttering your kitchen today! You might be surprised at how much calmer and more functional your space can become with just a few simple organization strategies.
