Pro-Level Cleaning Secrets: Free Guide Inside

Let’s face it, cleaning isn’t everyone’s favorite activity. While some individuals genuinely enjoy the process, many find it to be a chore. I can relate, even with my past experience as a professional housecleaner. However, that job did provide me with valuable insights into efficient and effective cleaning techniques. Now, I’m sharing that professional cleaning knowledge with you!

The core principle emphasized by the cleaning company I worked for was: top to bottom, left to right. This simple mantra allowed us to quickly assess any room and immediately identify the optimal starting point. The workload was further divided into wet rooms (bathrooms and kitchens) and dry rooms (living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms). When staffing permitted, we partnered up, with one person focusing on wet rooms and the other tackling dry rooms. During each cleaning session, one wet room and one dry room received a deep clean.

To this day, I still adhere to this cleaning methodology in my own home. I aim for a weekly cleaning schedule, incorporating deep cleaning on a rotating basis. Since I find wet rooms the least appealing to clean, I prioritize them first. Once those are out of the way, the rest of the cleaning feels much easier.

Mastering Wet Room Cleaning: Bathrooms and Kitchens

Let’s delve into the specifics of cleaning wet rooms. In bathrooms, my initial step is to apply toilet bowl cleaner, allowing it to work its magic while I tackle other areas. Then, regardless of the room, I begin by removing cobwebs from ceilings and dusting light fixtures. Next, I spray counters, tubs, showers, appliances, and sinks with the appropriate cleaner. I concentrate on the dirtiest areas first, then systematically scrub everything down, moving from left to right. I only clean the mirror if it’s particularly smeary. If you want to enhance the shine of your fixtures, use glass cleaner on them.

After spraying, I use the duster along baseboards and cabinet fronts, then swish the toilet. Sweep or vacuum the floor to remove any debris. Finally, I apply floor cleaner, mop it up, and the wet room is complete.

It’s crucial to remember this: never use the same rag in the kitchen that you use in the bathroom. Cross-contamination can lead to the spread of harmful bacteria, such as E. coli, which is definitely something to avoid.

😉 Housekeeper’s Secret Tip: Cleaning your microwave can be incredibly simple. Combine equal parts vinegar and water in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for approximately 3 minutes. The resulting steam will loosen food particles, and the vinegar will neutralize lingering odors, leaving your microwave fresh and clean. Then, simply wipe out the microwave with a clean rag.

Efficient Cleaning of Dry Rooms: Living Areas and Bedrooms

Dry rooms are often easier and quicker to clean. Similar to wet rooms, begin by removing cobwebs and dusting light fixtures and ceiling fans. Thoroughly dust all furniture and picture frames, working from left to right. During my time at the cleaning service, our supervisors frequently inspected our work, and one common area of oversight was the tops of picture frames. Don’t overlook those frames! If you are cleaning a bedroom, change the sheets. Next, use the duster along the baseboards, and then vacuum carpets and rugs.

😉 Housekeeper’s Secret Tip: When it comes to dusting areas with numerous knick-knacks and clutter, there’s no quick and easy solution. While my own personal design style tends to be minimalist, if you enjoy displaying small decorative items, focus on dusting them during “deep” cleaning sessions. Trust me on this one!

By adhering to this method and maintaining a consistent weekly cleaning routine, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can achieve a clean and tidy home. I can efficiently clean my entire 1200 square foot house in approximately 45 minutes using these techniques.

Maintaining a clean home doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With the right strategy and tools, you can achieve a sparkling living space in less time than you think.
