Gather Your Supplies: What You’ll Need to Create Your Hanging Ornament Tree

Before you begin, gather the following supplies:

• 6 Branches (or wooden dowels*)
• Ribbon or Martha Stewart Battery Operated LED Wire Lights
• Martha Stewart Snowberry Ornament Collection
• Drill
• White Spray Paint (optional, if using dowels)
• Permanent Marker (optional, if using dowels)
• Removable Picture Hanging Strips

*If you choose to create your own branches from wooden dowels, we recommend using 1″ diameter dowels. Spray paint them white and use a permanent marker to add a decorative pattern. This allows for customization and ensures the branches complement your overall holiday theme.

Step-by-Step Guide: Building Your Hanging Ornament Tree

Follow these simple steps to create your own unique hanging ornament Christmas tree:

1. Prepare Your Branches: Collect six branches from your yard or a local wooded area. Alternatively, if you prefer a more uniform look, use wooden dowels from a craft store.
2. Cut to Size: Cut your branches (or dowels) to varying lengths: 6″, 12″, 18″, 24″, 30″, and 36″. This creates the tapered shape of a traditional Christmas tree.
3. Drill Holes: At an angle, drill holes through the ends of each branch. These holes will be used to string the branches together, creating the triangular shape of the tree. Angling the holes is crucial for achieving the correct tree shape.

4. String the Branches: Thread wired lights or ribbon through the drilled holes, starting from the bottom (longest branch) and working your way up to the top (shortest branch). For added stability, thread the lights or ribbon back down through the branches.
5. Secure the Lights or Ribbon: To prevent the lights from sliding, loop the wire around the back of each branch to secure it in place. If using ribbon, simply tie a knot below each branch.
6. Hang and Decorate: Use removable picture hanging strips to attach the tree to your wall. Decorate with your chosen ornaments.
