Step 1: Prepare the PVC Pipe
Begin by thoroughly cleaning the PVC pipe with soap and water to remove any dirt or debris. Once dry, use spray paint primer to cover any printing or markings on the outside of the pipe. Step 2: Cut the Fabric

Step 3: Apply Fabric to the PVC Pipe

Allow the wrapped fabric to dry completely around the pipe.

Securely stabilize the round PVC pipe using pipe clamps or C-clamps to prevent it from rolling during the drilling process. Use a 1⁄4” or larger drill bit to drill symmetrical holes all around the pipe, following your planned pattern.

Step 5: Clean Up the Holes
Use the blunt end of a round handle or another suitable tool to gently push the drilled-through fabric back inside each hole. Twist the tool slightly to help the fabric stay in place. If the fabric around the hole is frayed or shredded, apply a small amount of ModPodge to keep it in place and prevent further unraveling.
Step 6: Trim Excess Fabric and Cut the Bottom Opening
Carefully trim any excess fabric at the top and bottom of the pipe using a utility knife. The fabric should cover the edge of the pipe without folding over inside it. On the back side of the pipe bottom, draw a 1” square. Use a jigsaw and a #18 blade to carefully cut out the square. This opening will accommodate the electrical cord for the LED lights.
Step 7: Prepare the Plexiglas Base
Trace one end of the PVC pipe onto one piece of Masonite. Measure in 3⁄8” from that line to create a smaller pattern. Sandwich the Plexiglas between the two pieces of Masonite and secure them with three small clamps. Cut out the circle using a jigsaw and a #18 blade. The Masonite provides stability to the Plexiglas, preventing it from cracking during the cutting process. File down the edges of the circle with a sander or sandpaper until it fits snugly inside the bottom of the PVC pipe.

Step 8: Attach the Plexiglas to the Pipe
To ensure the LED lights remain dry and protected, the Plexiglas will be attached inside the bottom of the pipe using silicone adhesive. Measure and mark 3” from the bottom of the pipe on the inside. Apply a small bead of silicone adhesive all the way around the inside of the pipe at the 3” mark. Gently place the Plexiglas up against the silicone bead and allow it to dry completely. Apply another bead of silicone around the bottom edge of the Plexiglas where it meets the pipe and let that dry as well.
Caution: Always follow all warnings and safety precautions provided on the string lights’ packaging. Do not leave the lights on for extended periods unattended.
Step 9: Modify the Furnace Cap
Cut two lines into the corrugated edge of the furnace cap, stopping approximately 1⁄2” before the bottom lip. Use needle-nose pliers to carefully roll the cut ends outward. This creates an opening that will align with the square opening you cut in the pipe bottom, allowing for the electrical cord to pass through.

Step 10: Assemble the Base and Add Lights
Place the coiled LED light rope into the steel end-cap. Gently bend the corrugated rim of the end-cap so that it will fit inside the bottom of the PVC pipe. It does not need to fit all the way down into the pipe.
