Paper Cutter or Ruler and Craft Knife: A paper cutter will ensure clean, precise cuts, but a ruler and craft knife can also be used.

Optional: Clothespins or small clips can be helpful for holding the paper strips in place during the weaving process. Double-sided tape or glue can be used to secure the finished artwork to the mat.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Your Woven Paper Wall Art

Each strip should be approximately 1 inch wide. The exact number of strips may vary depending on the desired density of the weave and the size of your frame. Step 2: Lay the Foundation

Before you start weaving, create a base by laying out approximately 8 strips of paper side by side on a flat surface. You have two options for this step: you can either weave the papers independently and then transfer the finished piece to the frame mat, or you can weave directly on top of the frame mat. If you choose the latter option, make sure to place the paper strips upside down on the mat, as shown in the photo in Step 3. This will ensure that the finished artwork aligns perfectly with the mat opening.

Now comes the most exciting part: weaving the paper strips together to create the intricate design. Begin by weaving another strip of paper through the 8 strips that are already laid out. The first piece might be a bit challenging, but don’t worry, it gets easier as you go! Alternate between going over and under each strip to create the woven pattern. Continue weaving until you have a large enough piece to fill the frame. If you find that the top strips are shifting or becoming difficult to manage, use clothespins or small clips to hold them in place. This will make the weaving process much smoother and prevent the strips from unraveling.

Once you have completed the weaving and are satisfied with the size and appearance of your artwork, carefully place it inside the frame mat. Ensure that the artwork is centered and aligned properly within the mat opening before securing it permanently.
