Geometric Nursery Reveal: Creating a Stylish and Serene Space for Baby
There’s an unparalleled joy in seeing a project come to fruition, especially one as personal and meaningful as a nursery. Our geometric nursery is finally complete, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share the transformation with you! It’s become my favorite room in the entire house, a tranquil and inspiring space designed with love and a touch of geometric flair. Prepare to be inspired!

The Before: A Blank Canvas
Every beautiful creation starts with a blank canvas. This room, like many before it, underwent a significant transformation to become the serene and stylish nursery it is today. Seeing the before and after photos really highlights the impact of the design choices we made.
Inspiration: Setting the Stage for a Geometric Dream
Inspiration is key to any design project. For this nursery, I was drawn to clean lines, geometric patterns, and a calming color palette. This image served as a starting point, guiding my vision and helping me make design decisions throughout the process.

Ta-da! Behold the finished product – a geometric nursery that’s both stylish and soothing. Every element, from the wall decals to the handmade bedding, was carefully chosen to create a cohesive and harmonious space. I am absolutely in love with how it turned out, and I hope you are too!
Painting the Foundation: A Bright and Airy Space
The foundation of any good room design is the paint color. A fresh coat of paint can completely transform a space, and that’s exactly what it did for this nursery. We opted for BEHR Decorator White in an eggshell finish, applying it from floor to ceiling. Using the same color on both the walls and ceiling simplified the painting process, saving time and effort. The white paint instantly brightened the room, creating a clean and airy atmosphere.
Geometric Wall Decals: A Rental-Friendly Solution
Since we’re currently renting, I wanted to add some visual interest to the walls without making permanent changes. Painting a mural, like in the inspiration photo, was out of the question. My solution? Wall decals by Walls by MUR. These adhesive triangles are easy to apply and remove, making them perfect for renters. The navy blue color adds a pop of color and complements the geometric theme. Plus, navy is a versatile color that can easily transition to a boy’s room in the future!
The Crib: Simple Elegance and DIY Bedding
We chose a simple white crib from IKEA for its affordability, sturdiness, and sleek design. Its minimalist style allows it to blend seamlessly with various decor themes. But the real star of the crib is the custom bedding, which I made myself! Armed with online tutorials and a little bit of courage, I created a unique and personalized crib set.
Fabric Inspiration: Sarah Watson’s Indian Summer Collection
To create the custom bedding and throw pillows, I turned to Sarah Watson’s INDIAN SUMMER fabric collection. The variety of patterns and cohesive color palette made it perfect for mixing and matching. The tee pee and mountain print served as my main reference point throughout the entire nursery design process.
Triangle Garland and Cloud Mobile: Whimsical Touches
To add a touch of whimsy and visual stimulation above the crib, I hung a triangle garland and a sweet cloud mobile from Baby Jives. The garland adds a playful element, while the cloud mobile provides a gentle and soothing visual for the baby to focus on.
During a family vacation in Idaho, I stumbled upon a triangle fabric that I knew would be perfect for the nursery. I bought a ridiculous amount of it! This fabric ultimately served as the inspiration for the nursery rug.
Roman Shades: A DIY Endeavor (and a Lesson Learned)
I envisioned a Roman shade with blackout lining for the nursery to ensure a dark and peaceful sleep environment. However, custom Roman shades can be quite expensive, and I couldn’t find one in the exact fabric design I wanted. So, I decided to take on the challenge of making my own. While I love a good DIY project, I’ll be honest – this one was a bit of a headache! My advice? Splurge and buy a pre-made Roman shade or hire a talented seamstress. Sometimes, it’s worth the investment to save yourself the stress!
Gold Leaf Dresser: A Flea Market Find Transformed
I found an old white dresser at a local flea market and gave it a makeover with bright coral paint and gold leaf accents. I loved the gold leaf detail in the inspiration photo, but since the dresser drawers didn’t have any indentations, I decided to cover the entire surface with gold leaf. It adds a touch of glam and sophistication to the room. A tutorial on this DIY project is coming soon!
Geometric Rug: Painting Over a Carpet Eyesore
The existing carpet in the room wasn’t exactly aesthetically pleasing. To cover it up and add some geometric flair, I painted a plain tan rug from IKEA with stencils and paint. This DIY project was a cost-effective way to create a custom rug that perfectly complements the nursery’s theme.
Land of Nod and Target: Adding the Finishing Touches
I partnered with Land of Nod to complete the nursery with art, lighting, and decor. Every nursery needs a cute lamp, and this geometric lamp base was the perfect choice. I paired it with a woven shade from Target to match the wicker hamper from Land of Nod.
Closet Organization: Maximizing Space and Functionality
To keep the nursery as organized as possible, the closet serves as the ultimate storage space. Blankets, towels, and washcloths are stored in clear drawers for easy access, while shoes, clothes, and small bath accessories are neatly arranged on hanging shelves. All storage solutions are from The Container Store.
Book Nook: Cultivating a Love for Reading
As a huge fan of books, I wanted to create a dedicated space for our little one’s growing library. This shelfwas ideal for displaying all those nighttime reads. I used a fabric cube to store toys and other odds and ends.
The Rocking Chair: A Comfortable Haven for Mom and Baby
The best advice I received as an expecting mother was to invest in a good rocking chair. You’ll spend countless hours rocking your baby to sleep, so comfort is key! My husband and I are both tall, so we needed a chair with a high back to rest our heads. After trying out about 15 chairs, we settled on the Graham Glider from West Elm. It’s perfect! The wingback sides provide a cozy resting place for your head, and the seat is deep enough to relax without worrying about sliding off.
Final Thoughts: A Dream Nursery Realized
And there you have it – my absolute favorite room in the world! I love everything about this geometric nursery. The light, the colors, the patterns – it all comes together to create a truly special space. The white paint made such a difference, brightening the room and making it feel so much more open and inviting.
