Ah, autumn! For many, it truly is the most wonderful time of the year.
Forget the holiday rush – this season is about embracing the simple joys,
especially with a DIY Chai Spice Tub Tea.
Here in New England, the arrival of fall ignites all the senses. The air turns
crisp and invigorating, leaves crunch delightfully underfoot, snug scarves
become a daily necessity, and cozy, warmly lit windows beckon on dark, chilly
nights. There’s an abundance of small, daily luxuries to savor.
This year, I’m adding another indulgence to my autumn routine, one that
aligns perfectly with my goal of enhanced self-care: DIY chai spice tub tea!
Dive into this guide to discover just how simple it is to create your very
own chai spice tub tea. Prepare for a sensory experience that melts stress
away!
I know, the pumpkin spice latte reigns supreme as the internet’s fall
drink-darling, but I’ll take a steaming cup of chai tea any day. That sweet
and spicy aroma immediately transports me to an autumnal paradise. Since chai
is both invigorating and comforting, it’s ideal for a stress-reducing
aromatherapy bath. This DIY Chai Spice Tub Tea promises an escape into
relaxation.
While aromatherapy often revolves around specific essential oils and their
unique benefits, you don’t need to adhere to strict rules to create a
restorative self-care bath. We each have our own individual preferences and
ideas of what truly relaxes us. That’s why I’m so eager to indulge in another
soak in my DIY chai spice tub tea. It effortlessly melts away all my tension!
Moreover, Epsom salt is renowned for its ability to alleviate sore muscles,
and black tea is packed with antioxidants that promote healthy skin. This
homemade tub tea is not only brimming with the joy of fall days, but it’s
also beneficial for your well-being!
Given the complex flavors inherent in chai tea, this recipe requires a variety
of whole spices. I’ve included links to online sources for these ingredients,
but the most cost-effective approach is to purchase whole spices in bulk from
a health food store or international market. Bulk spices are surprisingly
affordable when you only need small quantities, so don’t be intimidated by
the extensive ingredient list! Prepare to create a truly exceptional Chai
Spice Tub Tea.
Ready to create your own chai spice tub tea? Here’s what you’ll need for 5
“servings” of this aromatic bath blend:
Materials
- 1/2 cup Epsom salt
-
2 tablespoons
black Assam tea
(I used bagged tea because it’s what I had on hand) -
4 tablespoons
green cardamom pods -
2 tablespoons
dried ginger root -
1 tablespoon
whole cloves -
5-8 pieces
star anise -
5
cinnamon sticks -
1 tablespoon
black peppercorns -
1 tablespoon
dried orange peel -
Paper tea sachets, or
small muslin drawstring bags - A bowl
- A jar with an airtight lid
- A spoon
Note that the link for muslin bags is for a pack of 50! A health food store
should sell them individually if you just need a few.
Step 1: Mixing the Chai Spice Blend
Measure all the ingredients, *except* the cinnamon sticks, into the jar. Stir
well until everything is thoroughly combined. You can use the spoon to gently
crush the larger star anise pieces to ensure they’re evenly distributed
throughout the blend. This is key to achieving that perfect Chai Spice Tub
Tea aroma.
Then, place the cinnamon sticks on top. They are too large to be stirred
efficiently, so they’ll be added separately.
Step 2: Creating the Tub Tea Sachets
Fill each tea bag until it’s about 2/3 full with the chai spice blend. Place
a cinnamon stick in each bag, and then securely tie the bag closed.
That’s all there is to it! When you’re ready to indulge in your chai spice
tub tea, simply draw a warm bath, and place a sachet directly into the water
to steep, just like you would with a regular cup of tea. Gently crush the bag
with your fingers to release even more of the enchanting aroma. For an extra
dose of relaxation, stir an additional cup of Epsom salts into the bath. The
perfect recipe for a tranquil Chai Spice Tub Tea experience.
Then, recline into your chai-scented tub and let your worries melt away.

I know it’s incredibly tempting to brew a cup of chai tea from the same
batch to enjoy during your bath, but please *do not* drink this mix with
Epsom salt – it acts as a laxative when ingested. However, all the other
ingredients are edible, so if you omit the Epsom salt, you have a fantastic
recipe for a delicious mug of chai!
These simple homemade tub tea sachets would make a wonderful self-care gift,
don’t you think? Simply attach a small gift tag to each bag. Alternatively,
you could gift an entire jar of the tea blend along with some sachets, allowing
the recipient to customize the strength of each individual pouch. These Chai
Spice Tub Tea gifts are sure to be a hit!

But, this is definitely one of those gifts I might end up keeping for myself!
