DIY Natural Skincare Recipes: Body Butter, Lip Balm, Bath Bombs, and Sugar Scrub
As the new year approached, I decided to be more mindful about my skincare spending. I had accumulated a vast collection of lotions, lip glosses, and other products, and it was time to re-evaluate what I was applying to my skin and body.

After dedicating an afternoon to decluttering my bathroom, I curated a selection of essential skincare items and incorporated a few DIY recipes for a more natural approach. Creating body butters, scrubs, and balms is simpler than you might think. In fact, you likely already have most of the necessary ingredients in your pantry. Why not give one of these recipes a try and embark on a journey towards healthier, more radiant skin?

Whipped Body Butter Recipe: Luxurious Hydration at Home
Indulge in this incredibly moisturizing and decadent body butter, crafted with just three simple ingredients. Its solid form ensures easy storage, while its texture transforms upon contact with your skin, melting into a nourishing embrace. Unlike some body butters that leave a greasy residue, this recipe absorbs quickly, leaving your skin feeling supple, smooth, and radiantly healthy.

Ingredients for Homemade Body Butter:
- 1/2 cup cocoa butter: Provides deep hydration and a delightful chocolate aroma.
- 1/4 cup coconut oil: Adds moisturizing properties and a smooth texture.
- 1/4 cup macadamia nut oil: Contributes to skin elasticity and a luxurious feel.
- 1/2 tsp vanilla (optional): Enhances the scent with a sweet and comforting note.
Instructions: Begin by combining the cocoa butter, coconut oil, and macadamia nut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. You can melt the ingredients in the microwave in short intervals, stirring in between, or by placing the bowl in a pot of gently simmering water, ensuring the water doesn’t enter the bowl.

Once the mixture is fully melted, transfer the bowl to the freezer and let it cool for approximately 20 minutes. This allows the ingredients to partially solidify, creating the perfect consistency for whipping. Remove the bowl from the freezer and use a hand mixer to beat the mixture for 3-4 minutes, until it transforms into a light, fluffy cream. You’ll notice a beautiful white color develop as you whip. If you choose to add vanilla extract, incorporate it just before mixing to infuse the body butter with its alluring fragrance.

Transfer your newly whipped body butter into a clean jar or container. Store it in your bathroom for easy access after showering, providing your skin with essential hydration and nourishment.

DIY Grapefruit Floral Lip Balm: Naturally Nourishing for Your Lips
This invigorating grapefruit lip balm boasts a delightful aroma and sets remarkably quickly, making it a perfect afternoon project. I find it comparable in quality to popular brands like EOS or Burt’s Bees, offering superior hydration and protection. Since it’s formulated with coconut oil, it’s best stored in a lip pot rather than a tube to maintain its consistency.
Ingredients for DIY Lip Balm:
- 2 tablespoons beeswax: Provides structure and a protective barrier for the lips.
- 1 tablespoon mango butter: Offers deep moisturization and a creamy texture.
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil: Adds emollient properties and a soothing effect.
- 1/2 teaspoon grapefruit essential oil: Imparts a refreshing citrus scent.
- Chopped flower petals (optional): Adds a touch of natural beauty.

Instructions: Combine all the ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 30-40 seconds, or until fully melted. Stir well to ensure everything is thoroughly mixed. Grapefruit Pastel Bath Bombs: A Colorful and Aromatic Escape
Bath bombs have taken the internet by storm, and for good reason. These delightful bath accessories create a fizzy, colorful, and fragrant experience when they come into contact with water, transforming your ordinary bath into a luxurious spa-like retreat. My homemade bath bombs require approximately 24-48 hours to fully set, but the wait is well worth it!
Ingredients for Homemade Bath Bombs:
- 2 cups baking soda: Provides the fizzing action.
- 1/2 cup Epsom salt: Soothes muscles and reduces inflammation.
- 1 cup cream of tartar: Helps the bath bombs hold their shape.
- 2 tablespoons macadamia nut oil: Adds moisture and a luxurious feel.
- 1 tablespoon water: Activates the fizzing reaction.
- Purple & orange gel food coloring: Creates vibrant, pastel hues.
- Edible disco dust: Adds a touch of sparkle and shimmer.
How to Make Bath Bombs:
Begin by combining all the dry ingredients – baking soda, Epsom salt, and cream of tartar – in a large mixing bowl. In a separate container, combine the wet ingredients – macadamia nut oil and water. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing continuously with a whisk and your hands. Be sure to add the liquid gradually to prevent the dry mixture from fizzing out of control.

Once you’ve thoroughly incorporated the wet and dry ingredients, the mixture should have a consistency that allows you to squeeze it into a solid shape and have it hold its form. This indicates that it’s time to add the color!

Divide the mixture into two separate bowls. Add the purple gel food coloring to one bowl and the orange gel food coloring to the other. Mix well with your hands until the color is evenly distributed throughout each bowl.

The combination of purple and orange creates a beautiful and harmonious pastel palette!

Sprinkle the colored mixtures into silicone molds in a cupcake tin, alternating the colors to create a visually appealing layered effect. Fill the molds completely, pressing down firmly with your fingers to pack the mixture tightly. Sprinkle edible disco dust generously on top and press firmly to ensure it adheres to the surface.

Allow the bath bombs to dry completely for a day or two, ensuring they are firm and solid before removing them from the molds. Store them in a cool, dry place and have them ready to elevate your bath experience whenever you desire a colorful and fragrant escape!
