A Colorful Master Bedroom Makeover: From Dreary to Dreamy!
Get ready to be amazed! We’re thrilled to finally unveil the stunning transformation of our 29th Avenue master bedroom. This makeover was a labor of love, and the results speak for themselves. If you recall, the “before” state was… well, let’s just say it was far from inspiring. Think dark, uninviting, and utterly lacking personality. But fast forward a few weeks, and prepare to feast your eyes on the vibrant, cozy, and utterly transformed space we now call our sanctuary.

Enough reminiscing about the past! Let’s dive into the reveal:

Ta-da! What a difference, right?
Let’s take another look at the “before” for good measure:

And now, the glorious “after”:

Ahhh. So much better! This transformation was more than just cosmetic; it was about creating a space that felt truly ours, a retreat from the world. The goal was to create a master bedroom that was both colorful and calming, a place where we could relax and recharge.
The Power of Paint: Brightening Up a Dim Space
Living in the Pacific Northwest, we’re no strangers to limited sunlight, especially with north and east-facing windows in our bedroom. This meant one of our primary goals was to maximize the natural light we did get. The solution? Paint! We opted for a very pale pink – “Shell Pink” from Benjamin Moore – in a matte finish. This choice proved to be transformative. The pale pink brightened the room significantly without feeling cold or sterile. It created a warm and inviting atmosphere, a perfect backdrop for the pops of color we planned to incorporate.

Window Treatment Wonders: Blinds.com to the Rescue
Remember those sad, broken IKEA blinds? They were definitely not contributing to the ambiance we were striving for. So, they had to go! We replaced them with incredible top-down, bottom-up blackout shades from Blinds.com. These shades are a game-changer! The sheer layer that drops down from the top is brilliant. During the day, we enjoy beautifully filtered light, and at night, we can completely block out unwanted streetlights. They are, without a doubt, the perfect window covering for a bedroom. In fact, when I asked my husband what his favorite part of the entire makeover was, he immediately said the shades!

Furniture and Accessories: Creating a Cozy and Colorful Oasis
With our room brightening needs addressed, it was time for the fun part: choosing furniture and decorating! As mentioned before, we wanted a colorful yet cozy bedroom, and accessories are key to achieving that balance. Color, textures, and personality are crucial when making the room cozy.

In my opinion, the foundation of any cozy room is a rug. And this gorgeous blue rug from Loloi was the ideal choice. It anchors the room beautifully and complements the pastel pink walls without being visually overwhelming, as a patterned rug might have been. Plus, we already had plans for crazy bedding and pillows to satisfy my “wacky pattern” desires! (If you’re familiar with our bathroom makeover, you know what I mean!)

The next step is accessorizing with whatever brings you joy. For me, that means surrounding myself with colorful artwork and, of course, lots of plants! I added a plethora of low-light houseplants and some hanging terrariums for added visual interest. The terrariums were from Target, and while the twine they came with was perfectly fine, I couldn’t resist adding my own personal touch. Some leather cording and a few wooden beads did the trick, and now I have some truly unique and personalized hanging terrariums! Hooray!

IKEA Hack and a Dream Mattress: Completing the Essentials
Our old bedroom was lacking some basic necessities, such as lamps and nightstands. So, like any good DIYer, I made a trip to IKEA to snag a couple of side tables that could be transformed to better suit our needs (and budget). The original tables were solid white, but a few coats of spray paint helped tie them in with the rest of the room and visually separate them from the awesome white table lamps we got from LampsPlus. And just like that, we were well on our way to a fully functional bedroom! The only thing missing? A bed and a mattress that didn’t leave me feeling like I’d slept on a bed of rusty nails. That’s where YogaBed comes in.

You guys, I cannot sing enough praises about our YogaBed mattress. This mattress is a game-changer! It features four unique layers that work together to provide the most restful night’s sleep you’ll ever experience. At the top is a layer of Instant Response Foam, followed by a gel layer, a thick breathable foam layer, and then a support base. It also has a removable, washable cover, which is a fantastic feature for someone like me who values cleanliness. Oh, and the best part? It’s incredibly affordable!

Final Touches: A Sleek Ceiling Fan and a Happy Dance

The final item on our to-do list was to replace the old, outdated ceiling fan with a sleek, white one. Thankfully, LampsPlus came to our rescue, and we could finally sleep soundly in our colorful, cozy, and slightly quirky bedroom! HAPPY DANCE!
