Why Choose a Reclaimed Wood Accent Wall?

- Eco-Friendly Choice: By using reclaimed wood, you are contributing to sustainable practices and reducing the demand for new lumber. This helps conserve forests and minimizes environmental impact.
- Adds Warmth and Texture: Reclaimed wood instantly adds warmth and texture to any room, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. It’s a fantastic way to break up monotonous spaces and add visual interest.
- Versatile Design Element: Reclaimed wood complements a wide range of interior design styles, from rustic farmhouse to modern industrial. It can be easily incorporated into various spaces, including living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and offices.
- Increases Home Value: A well-executed reclaimed wood accent wall can significantly enhance the aesthetic appeal of your home and potentially increase its market value.

Materials You’ll Need
Gather these essential materials before you begin:
- TimberChic lumber (comes with an included roller)
- Miter saw (for precise cuts)
- Level and/or laser level (to ensure straight lines)
- Tape measure (for accurate measurements)
- Pencil (for marking)
- Box cutter and metal straight edge (for trimming)
- Ladder (for reaching higher areas)

Step 1: Preparing Your Wall
Proper preparation is crucial for a successful outcome. Begin by thoroughly cleaning the wall surface to remove any dust, dirt, or debris. Use a level or laser level to determine if your wall is perfectly level. If there are any significant irregularities, address them before proceeding.

Step 2: Installing the End Caps
The end caps create a finished and polished look for your accent wall. Carefully place the end caps along the edges of your wall, using a ladder to reach the top sections. Ensure they are aligned correctly and securely attached to the wall. Use the roller provided with the Timberchic lumber to firmly press the end caps onto the wall. Remember that once the piece is attached, it is difficult to remove without damage, so double-check placement before adhering.

Pro Tip: We highly recommend purchasing an extra end cap or two. Since you’re working with real timber, imperfections and aesthetic variations are common. Having extra pieces on hand ensures you can choose the best-looking ones for your wall.
Step 3: Attaching the Planks and Masking Holes
Now for the fun part – attaching the reclaimed wood planks! Each box of Timberchic wood includes black stickers. Don’t discard them! These stickers are essential for masking any holes or imperfections in the wood. Before removing the adhesive backing, position the plank on the wall and use a pencil to mark the location of any holes.

Step 4: Applying the Stickers
Place a black sticker directly over the pencil mark you made on the wall. To conserve stickers, especially for smaller holes, consider cutting them in half. This ensures you have enough stickers to cover all imperfections.

Step 5: Adhering the Planks
Remove the adhesive backing from the reclaimed wood plank and carefully position it on the wall, ensuring the hole aligns with the black sticker underneath. Press the plank firmly against the wall to ensure a secure bond.

Step 6: Securing the Planks
Use the roller to apply even pressure across the entire plank, ensuring it is flat against the wall. Repeat this process, adding planks one by one until your entire wall is covered. You will likely need to trim the bottom row of planks to fit using a box cutter and metal straight edge.

We couldn’t be happier with Timberchic! Their product is incredibly user-friendly, and they have a fantastic mission. They source timber from the bottom of a lake in Maine, wood that was once used to transport lumber. They transform these forgotten logs into thin, usable planks, creating a sustainable and beautiful resource.

Tips and Tricks for a Perfect Reclaimed Wood Accent Wall
Here are a few valuable lessons we learned during our project:
- Accurate Measurements are Key: When calculating the width of the top and bottom rows, remember to account for the small gaps between the other rows. We recommend making the top row slightly smaller, which will allow the bottom row to be a bit wider and more visually balanced.
- Strategic Plank Selection: Take your time when choosing which planks to use. Mix up the colors, textures, and lengths to achieve a natural and organic look. Having a friend hold up the plank while you view it from a distance can be helpful in making the right choices.
- Embrace Imperfections: Don’t worry if the planks are not perfectly aligned. The beauty of reclaimed wood lies in its natural, organic feel. Minor imperfections only enhance the character and charm of the wall.

We would undoubtedly use Timberchic again! In fact, we are already considering creating another small accent wall on the other side of the house to tie the front and back sections of our home together. The material is incredibly versatile and would work beautifully in various spaces, such as the exterior walls of a kitchen island. The only area where it might not be ideal is a space with an irregular shape, as that would require complex measurements and cuts. Timberchic also offers a whitewashed color scheme, which would be perfect for a beach house, perhaps surrounding a fireplace or in an entryway. The possibilities are endless!

Even our furry friend, Charlie the dog, approves of the new wall!
