Inspired by this, I decided to create my Halloween decor this year using free vintage prints sourced online. This post provides detailed instructions for this simple DIY project. Materials You’ll Need

Here’s a list of the essential materials to gather before you begin:

• Vintage Halloween Prints: Printed in your preferred size. I opted for 16×20 inch engineer prints for a large, impactful look.
• Scissors: For trimming your prints to the desired size.
• Mounting Squares or Double-Sided Sticky Tape: To easily and securely attach your prints to the wall without damaging the paint.
• Washi Tape: This decorative tape adds a touch of flair and frames your prints beautifully. Choose colors that complement your Halloween theme, or opt for classic black and white.
• Ruler or Level: Essential for ensuring your prints are hung straight and evenly spaced.
• Chalk or Pencil: To make subtle measuring marks on your wall for precise placement.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Your Vintage Halloween Display

Step 1: Download and Print Your Vintage Images

The first step is to find and download the vintage Halloween prints you want to use. I recommend visiting the Graphics Fairy. This website has a treasure trove of high-quality, free vintage images perfect for Halloween decor.

Here are the specific printables I used for my display:

I wanted to include an owl and a spider in my collection for some added spooky charm. Here are the links to download those:

Since the images come in different sizes, I used Photoshop to adjust them to a uniform size before printing. If you don’t have Photoshop, don’t worry! You can use Canva, a free and user-friendly online editing tool. Simply create a blank design in Canva, upload each JPEG file, add it to the blank design, center it, and adjust the size to your liking. Once you’re satisfied, save the new photo and take it to your local printing store or print it at home.

Step 2: Cut Your Prints to Size (Optional)

This step is optional, but it can help create a more cohesive and polished look. I chose to print my images as 16×20 inch engineer prints for a larger display. However, there was still some extra white space at the top of the prints. To address this, I used an old photo mat as a template to unify the size of all four prints.

Step 3: Mount the Prints on the Wall

I used mounting squares to attach the photos to the wall. These are generally safe for painted walls and easy to remove. Double-sided sticky tape works equally well. Before you start sticking, use your ruler and level to ensure your prints will be straight and evenly spaced.

The entire process of mounting the prints took only about 10 minutes. It’s a quick and satisfying way to transform your space for Halloween.

Step 4: Frame Your Photos with Washi Tape

Now for the fun part – adding a touch of personality with washi tape! I love using Scotch Expressions Washi Tape for its wide variety of colors and patterns. Select washi tape that fits your Halloween theme.

To ensure straight lines, I used a small ruler to measure an equal distance from the edge of the print and made light chalk marks. Then, I simply lined up the washi tape with the chalk marks and carefully applied it to the print.

While orange is a classic Halloween color, it’s not my personal favorite. So, I decided to go in a different color direction and chose blue for my washi tape. With plenty of orange pumpkins already in my decor, the blue provides a refreshing contrast and a unique twist on traditional Halloween colors.

I absolutely love how this inexpensive Halloween project turned out. It’s stylish, not too creepy, and adds a touch of vintage charm to my home. This DIY project is the perfect way to create a sophisticated Halloween atmosphere without spending a fortune.
